Through The Archenland

The featured piece for Narnia Presents: Life As An Adventure

Themes

The concept of “Through The Archenland” takes inspiration from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S.Lewis, focusing on its third book The Horse and His Boy. The book discusses three countries within the world of the series: The kingdoms of Calormen, Archenland, and Narnia.

For my piece, Calormen works as a metaphor for the dark and difficult times of one ´s life, and Narnia as a metaphor for better times and mental well-being. In the book, Archenland is the country in between these two countries, and hence works as an archway between the two states in this piece.

In my interpretation, the journey through Archenland is the mental and physical journey one must take if one wants to move on from traumas and regrets, no matter what those may be. My wish is to use dance to illustrate how this journey takes both courage and resilience but is ultimately worth taking.
