Painting and drawing
When I was little, I thought that in the world of visual art, oil painting was the greatest art form. I don´t know where I got this impression. So I started visual arts studies with oil, but along the way came watercolor, drawing with different tools, and even sculpture. Still, my main interest during my study years remained in oil. I especially liked painting nature and human figures, mixing fantastic elements of my inner world with realism. During my studies in art school Maa, where transcendent meditation and studies in esotery were part of the curriculum, the teachers openly and actively questioned my Christian worldview. I had to fight for my right to freedom of thought, and since there seemed to be no other Christians in the school, I fought alone. Gradually, although I started painting with the biggest possible canvases, the struggle led me to shrink my work down to even as small as 4×2 centimeters. However, this struggle also caused me to discover the perks of small-sized work: it can be more intimate, approachable, and easy to produce and exhibit.
While I transitioned from painting to photography in the 2010s, my early work reflects the same sense of magical whimsy that I aim to evoke in my current work.
