Botanic gardens of the world
About the project
My photo series is an exploration of plant conservatories around the world. Botanic gardens are entirely artificial and curated, yet designed to display and conserve the wildness and beauty of nature. This juxtaposition has always fascinated me. Having lived in colder places with plant conservatories for most of my life, I always visit them when I need a reminder of the beauty that exists even when the nature around me is sleeping. I owe a lot to them.
I started my photography project with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in 2018. Since then, I have visited and photographed 16 other botanic gardens spanning Europe, USA, and Polynesia. To me, botanic gardens are one of the physical spaces that best display human efforts of protecting the environment in a way that not only preserves, but celebrates the Creator´s work. I see this photography project both as an act of environmental activism and a love letter to all the people who helped build these green spaces.
